Engraved Plaques and Plates

Our plaques can be made for both interior or exterior use, with all plaques suitable for interior use and some materials being suitable for harsher outdoor conditions.

The most common materials used for engraved plaques are;

  • Plastic and acrylic plaques come in a variety of colours and finishes. Some of these are exterior grade plastics but because their life is still limited we usually suggest using a more suitable exterior material. Some of the clear plastics can be reverse engraved if a completely smooth surface is required.
  • Polished brass has a protected mirror finish. Like all polished items they tend to show up scratches and fingerprints easily, so they are suitable when placed out of the way of curious hands.
  • Lacquered satin brass is an attractive, traditional material. Low sheen finish helps to hide dust and scratches. It is also available with a chocolate bronze finish.
  • Clean satin brass is the same as above but without the protective lacquer coating. Most industrial grade lacquers will break down in the sun over time. The result is a very scrappy looking finish. It can be refurbished but we think it's better to let the brass take on it's natural patina over time. For those with a passion, the brass can be clean weekly to maintain it's lustre; and, over the years, it will become beautifully polished. These types of plaques are suitable for both interior and exterior uses.
  • Laser etched stainless steel is excellent for fine detailed work and most graphics. The detail is a dark charcoal colour. These can be placed on the interor and exterior and can be lacquered for protection against smears and to make the details darker if it is to be used internally as the lacquers don't survive outside
  • Machine engraved stainless steel is very durable and popular with heavy industry. Stainless steel is available in standard or marine grade. Marine grade resists rusting and the environment has to be very harsh for it to be an issue. Due to the durability of the material it is very well suited to outdoor use as well as interior usage.
  • Anodised aluminium has several advantages. It is lightweight and the anodised finish is impervious to tarnishing. Available in silver, black and (our most popular) brass finishes, it can be used under any conditions.
  • Other natural materials such as wood, glass, granite and marble can be laser engraved with varying degrees of success.

There are a number of standard sizes for plaques, although we are more than happy to make them to your exact specifications.
